Reenascreena Community Action Group has
called an extraordinary meeting for Thursday evening to discuss the
water supply outages that are currently plaguing the area. The water
supply has failed several times over recent days, with no apparent
explanation from Cork County Council as to why the outages have
occurred or what is being done to rectify the situation. Meanwhile
residents of Rosscarbery, Clonakilty and further afield continue to
enjoy an uninterrupted supply of water, despite the fact that they
are all supplied by the Argideen river, which rises just outside
Reenascreena.
Locals are incensed that they are
without water for essentials like drinking, cooking and washing while
other communities served by the same water source seem to have plenty
of water – not just for the essentials, but also to spray their
gardens, power-wash their patios and rinse down their cars.
“It's a shambles,” said Calvin
Jones, PRO of the Reenascreena Community Action Group, which called
Thursday's meeting. “This happens every year. We can't even bathe
our children or flush the toilet – yet there seems to be plenty of
water to supply other areas. There's obviously a problem
with the water infrastructure in Reenascreena, but there's simply no
communication. Nobody's telling us what's causing the problem, and,
more importantly, what they are doing to rectify the situation.”
Cork County Engineer
Michael Tobin, who's responsible for the water supply to the Reenascreena area, and several
County Councilors have been invited to Thursday's meeting. |
