Ayodele Scott in Reenascreena The Halloween/Samhain of 2005 in Reenascreena will be remembered for a long time. Over the weekend, Radio Eireann broadcast the play “The Ghost of the Reenascreena Lighthouse”,
written by Roger Gregg; everyone who heard it had a different opinion
but those who missed it were disappointed. But the completely
unexpected event was the arrival of a team of drummers led by a man
from Sierra Leone, named Ayodele Scott. Our place became the
capital of percussion as they brought us beautiful noise, novel
experiences, late night singing , new ways of dancing, a variety of
workshops and venison curry. Could any place ask for more? |

Noel Fitz at the base of Reenascreena's inadequate mains water storage facility Two members of Reenascreena Community Action Group (RCAG) addressed County Councillors and Council officials in Clonakilty yesterday to demand action on the issue of Reenascreena's intermittent mains water supply. Ironically it was raining heavily outside as Calvin Jones and Noel Fitzpatrick addressed the meeting, highlighting the problems an unreliable water supply causes Reenascreena's households and businesses during the summer months. Water problems have plagued the area every summer for a decade or more. "Patience is something people in Reenascreena have in abundance," Calvin Jones told the meeting, "but like our water supply, this summer it finally ran out!" |

A delegation from Reenascreena Community Action Group will address a policy meeting of Cork County Council West in Clonakilty on Monday 19th September. The topic under discussion: Reenascreena's recurring mains water problems. Noel Fitzpatrick and Calvin Jones will each be invited to address the Councillors and Staff of the County Council for three minutes apiece. They hope to highlight local disenchantment with the water supply services, and urge the Council to take long overdue action to improve the situation. As part of their presentation to the Council they will stress the need for improved communication, and will request regular update meetings and telephone calls with Council Engineers to verify what progress is being made to ensure that Reenascreena has a consistent water supply next summer. RCAG is confident that these presentations will play an important part in raising the profile of Reenascreena's water supply problems, and in putting the issue firmly back on the County Council's agenda. Look out for updates on the website as we get them. |
