![]() A beautiful day in Reenascreena
It
was a beautiful day in Reenascreena on Sunday 20th of June as bands
from around the area gathered for the final event of the Reenascreena
Midsummer Extravaganza. Local youngsters kicked off the Music Marathon
at about 4:30pm with a varied programme delivering everything from
heavy rock to traditional Irish ballads.
Blue Velvet,
an Ownahincha based band whose members originate from South Wales,
turned up and played a couple of great impromptu sessions during the
course of the afternoon and early evening. They were interspersed with
contributions from several local performers, including RCAG's very own
Maurice Sheehy. "Dancing at the Crossroads" added a welcome bit of
variety to the programme before local bands Wazoo Inc. and The God Fearing Folk took to the stage to lead the festival through the night and well into the early hours of Monday morning.
The atmosphere throughout the day was wonderful as people relaxed and enjoyed the good weather and excellent music. With a constantly sizzling BBQ and an easily accessible bar there was no need to go home, and many stayed in the village for the duration of the event. It was a fitting end to a weekend that must surely herald the successful return of Reenascreena's annual summer festivals. Scroll down to see more images
