The Mayor of County Cork, Councillor Paddy Sheehan, was full of praise for the pupils of Scoil Náisiúnta Ré na Scríne last Thursday evening (23/06) when he attended an art exhibition of the children's work in the Reenascreena community hall. Dubbed the h'Art of Reenascreena, the exhibition gave local people a chance to see the impressive results of the school's participation in the Cork County Council sponsored Artist in Residence initiative.

West Cork artist Alison Trim worked closely with pupils over a twelve week period, encouraging their creativity and providing artistic guidance as the children developed a number of artistic projects. There was a wide variety of work on display, the highlight of which were individual art books created by pupils depicting their vision of life in this vibrant West Cork community.

In one of his last public engagements before handing over his mayoral chain of office, Cllr. Sheehan said he was delighted to have been invited to Reenascreena and commended the standard of the art on display. He also congratulated Alison Trim on the success of her work with the children, and said how pleased he was that Cork County Council had been involved in the process.

In closing his address to the large crowd Councillor Sheehan delighted pupils with a mayoral decree that there should be “no homework tomorrow” to celebrate the success of the occasion.
