Drawing the stones
Pupils at Reenascreena Stone Circle
Scoil Náisiúnta Ré na Scríne will present an exhibition of pupils' art work in Reenascreena Community Hall on Thursday 23rd June 2005. The body of work on display represents the fruit of working with artist Alison Trim, who has been nurturing the children’s artistic vision over the past twelve weeks as part of a Cork County Council sponsored “Artist in Residence” initiative.

Together Alison and the pupils have explored the environs of Reenascreena, visiting and sketching local landmarks, including the stone circle from which the village derives its name. The children have also interviewed local people about life in the area and have used tapes of these interviews to inspire their drawings.

“Each child has produced a personal book of his or her own impressions of the locality,” said Jean Duignan, principal of the school. “They're presently putting the finishing touches to their wall plaques depicting life in the area. All of this work will be on display in the community hall on Thursday 23rd of June at 8 pm and we'd like to extend an invitation to all members of our community to come and join us in this celebration of the children’s art.”

As well as enjoying the art on display, visitors to the exhibition will be treated to traditional music performed by pupils taught by Martin Power on his weekly visits to the school.
